Mean But Clean: More Key West Crime Stories
July 30, 2007
If you don't come to this website for any other reason - please do check back for the Key West Crime blotter - because - well, it is without question the most enjoyable thing to write about. I mean - where else do stories like this one dominate the Police Report. Sick of the drivebys, gang wars, smog, fog and folly in your city? It's time to take a trip to Paradise folks - where the felonies typically involve beer, a scooter and a piece of pungent pie. The story below - well - rusty beer - not quite as exotic, but you get the point..:-)
KEY WEST — A man told police that he and a friend were sprayed by a bartender at the Smallest Bar in Town early Friday morning after a dispute about a rusty beer.According to reports, no arrests were made because the bartender argued that he sprayed the 24-year-old Gainesville, Fla., man with soap after he splashed a beer at him.

This is a strange and sort of unsettling story. According to todays Key West Citizen - it is against the law to have more than one wife. Now I'm not sure if this is just for Monroe County - or if it applies to Florida as whole - but I got to get my ass back to Utah quick! Read the full story at the link below..;-)
( Hey and I even get to use the Key West Weddings category for a change - but am I allowed to post this twice?)

Hemingway Look A Like Contest 2007: Insurance Agent Takes the Prize
July 23, 2007
Well - the 2007 Papa Look A Like contest has been decided and first prize was awarded to Larry Austin - a Palm Harboro Insurance Salesman. Austin said he shared Hemingway's affinity for Key West - and a good time - but other than the striking physical resemblance - that is where the similarity ended. The only thing he claims to have written - are insurance policies..:-) Which I might add - in my recent experience - are a much longer read than " For Whom the Bell Tolls " or " To Have or Have Not". Congratulations also to Bruce Overby who won the Hemingway short story contest with his submission - earning about $1000 - but much more importantly - the respect of all of the judges and fellow authors involved in the annual contest. Read the Full Story at the link below:

The final round was held late Saturday, which would have been Hemingway's 108th birthday.Austin, of Palm Harbor, said he shares Hemingway's fondness for Key West, cats and having a good time, though he has never attempted writing anything except insurance policies.
